KELO: Gift of Sight

The Gift Of Sight

Do you know someone that is deserving of laser vision correction surgery? One Sioux Falls medical practice is helping you make someone's dream come true.

Last year, doctors and staff at Vance Thompson Vision read through nearly 200 letters written by friends and family nominating a deserving person for the Gift Of Sight.  Four people were chosen to receive laser vision correction for free.

That gift is being given again.

Staff and doctors at the medical practice known for giving the gift of sight every day say it's their way of giving back. The group will accept nominations from everyone, which have to be in by December 31. And you can't nominate yourself, rather someone you think is deserving.

“We want somebody else to give their reasonings why they think somebody in their lives, who’s special to them, close to them, deserves this gift,” Dr. Alison Tendler of Sanford Clinic Vance Thompson Vision said.

The winners will be chosen in early January, and the procedures will be done just a few weeks later.

“After those four are selected, we invite them in for a consultation to make sure they're a good candidate and the procedure happens the third week in January,” Dr. Vance Thompson of Sanford Clinic Vance Thompson Vision said.

Premium Lens Implants

The LASIK procedure is the right answer for most patients who are considering refractive surgery to improve their vision. However, in patients with higher degrees of nearsightedness or farsightedness, the cornea may be too thin to allow full refractive correction.

In these cases, surgical implants may be the best alternative. These special devices are placed in the eyes to improve their focusing ability.
