Verenice Castillo, OD

Meet Dr. Castillo

Dr. Castillo’s interest in optometry began through her own experience wearing glasses from the age of six. Her annual eye examinations were some of her favorite medical appointments because her optometrist not only helped her see clearly but also took the time to educate her about vision.

After shadowing her optometrist during her senior year of high school, she knew eye care was the right path for her. She later spent several summers interning at the same clinic, gaining experience that strengthened her decision to pursue optometry.

Dr. Castillo earned her bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, with a minor in Spanish, from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She then earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry. Her clinical training included pediatric eye care, ocular disease management, specialty contact lenses, and pre- and post-operative care for cataract, LASIK, and corneal surgery patients.

Dr. Castillo believes every patient deserves to feel heard, respected, and educated throughout their care. Her goal is to explain information clearly and provide every patient with a kind, compassionate experience.

Interests & Added Expertise

Having experienced high myopia from a young age, Dr. Castillo is especially interested in advances in myopia management that may help slow myopia progression in children. She is encouraged by new technologies that give young patients and their families more options for protecting long-term vision.

Dr. Castillo is also fluent in English and Spanish, allowing her to communicate with and educate a broader range of patients and families.

Personal & Hobbies

Outside of work, Dr. Castillo enjoys reading, playing games with her fiancé, Kevin, and attending Pilates and Lagree classes. They share their home with two cats, Migi and Lychee.
