What is EVO ICL?
EVO ICL is a thin, flexible lens placed behind the iris and in front of your natural lens. It corrects nearsightedness and astigmatism by helping light focus properly on the retina.
Unlike LASIK, EVO ICL does not reshape the cornea. Your natural lens stays in place, and the implanted lens is not visible to others.
The lens bends incoming light so it focuses more accurately on the retina. This improves distance vision for eligible patients with nearsightedness. The EVO Toric ICL can also correct eligible amounts of astigmatism.
Your natural lens stays in place, and your cornea is not reshaped. EVO ICL is designed to provide long-term vision correction while preserving your eye’s natural anatomy.
How Does EVO ICL Work?
EVO ICL adds a customized focusing lens to your eye’s existing optical system.
During the procedure, your surgeon makes a small incision near the edge of the cornea. The folded lens is gently inserted through this opening and positioned behind the iris. The lens then works with your natural lens to focus light more clearly.
The procedure does not require the surgeon to remove your natural lens or use a laser to reshape corneal tissue.
EVO ICL also has a small central opening that supports the natural movement of fluid within the eye. Detailed measurements before surgery help your surgeon select the appropriate lens size and correction for your eye.
Most people cannot see or feel the lens once it is in position.
EVO ICL vs. LASIK
EVO ICL and LASIK can both reduce dependence on glasses and contacts, but they correct vision in different ways.
EVO ICL
EVO ICL places a customized lens behind the iris and in front of the natural lens without removing corneal tissue. Because the cornea is left intact, EVO ICL may be an option for some patients with higher prescriptions, thinner corneas, or other factors that make LASIK less appropriate.
LASIK
LASIK reshapes the cornea with a laser to change how light focuses on the retina. It may be a good option for patients with appropriate prescriptions, corneal thickness, and overall eye health.
Which Procedure Is Right For You?
